Let’s Eradicate Poverty & Fix Work

Decent work and economic growth

The SDGs cover a lot of very important areas. Two that could be seen as overlapping are “no poverty” and “decent work and economic growth.” To solve these universal issues we may have to see a complete revamp in what we consider work and charity.

Luckily we now live in a world that has access to blockchain technology. Don’t believe the naysayers: Blockchain is far from dead. In fact, properly harnessed this technology is set to radically redefine how we access our finances, how we work and how we see where our money goes.

It’s a very exciting time to be alive.

Financial entrepreneurs across the world are exploring how to best use blockchain technology and many of these are discovering ways to improve our work world and reduce poverty levels.

Let’s start with one of the elements key to the end of poverty: transparency.

A lack of transparency is responsible for the root of poverty and we are now starting to recognize how important the issue of transparency is.

This is where blockchain shows its importance.

Blockchain brings transparency into the forefront, removing back-door financing, reducing exploitation and increasing trust levels. Harnessing this will ensure money (be it financing, donations, grants, etc.) gets to where it is actually needed.

The importance of this is obvious. We already have the Publish What You Pay movement, which is pushing for more transparency in the extraction sector with the end purpose of ensuring the benefits of the extraction are extended to those living in the environment.

Once blockchain is set up across the board transparency will be the norm instead of the dream.

Another key element of ending poverty is bettering the #work world.

In developing nations blockchain will improve their agriculture industry through the use of the decentralized distributed ledger system. HashCash, for example, is working with farmers in Kenya to introduce the technology and improve accuracy levels and quality levels of the crops as well as reduce corruption.

India is another country exploring the incredible potential of blockchain and agriculture. By combining blockchain and its soil health card system the country plans to give farmers better access to their data, which will in turn improve their farming processes. As well, combining blockchain and land cards will lead to a much better subsidization system.

Modernizing farming techniques is something that will end up helping billions, so it is great to see technology being used this way.

Blockchain is also helping those in the precarious work field.

Our current work world has been undergoing a change for a while and we have been seeing a real rise in freelance work. There are real dangers in this (as well as real potential), but blockchain will help ensure that this stage of the work world serves everyone’s needs better.

Once again, blockchain’s relationship with transparency is what is bringing forth the positive impact. Thanks to its transparent structure, everyone’s value and contribution to a project is easy to clarify and note. This in turn strengthens both the notion of a freelance worker and the portfolios of freelancers working in anything linked to the blockchain.

As well, smart contracts will improve the payment process, which is good news for all parties.

This blockchain upgrade is a much-needed upgrade to the modern working world and will improve processes for businesses and workers across the board. It will help ensure that freelance work is both decent and a path to economic growth.

Generally people will agree that we need to solve poverty and maintain a happy, healthy economy and workforce. That being said, these are goals we have been working towards for a very, very long time.

Modern thinking and technology like blockchain, used properly and to their full advantage, may finally give us the tools we need to finally achieve our goals of creating a more economically-just world. This is exciting and fantastic news.
