SDG 3 Good Health and Well-Being

Modern technology is helping us to do so many things. It is making our lives easier, smarter and more connected.

More importantly, modern technology is helping us explore new ways to be connected. With new innovations and innovators we are discovering ways to reach out to segments of society that have previously not really received the attention and brainpower needed to solve their crises.

A good example of this can be seen in the medical world where modern technology is changing how we cope with the effects of our medical issues.

In order to properly overcome a medical crisis we need a large amount of emotional support. Imagine if that support could come in from across the globe. This is where the positive effects of technology are coming into play.

Let’s look at some of the amazing developments coming out that will bring our health care to the next level.

When ill we often tend to shut ourselves away from the world, both because we don’t want to infect others and because we don’t want to be seen in our current state.

At the same time, ironically, we also want and need support.

One of the benefits of technology is both of these desires can now coalesce. You can stay at home and get medical advice at the same time, all from an app. Social connection when we need it most.

This is what Curatio is aiming to do, calling itself the “Private social network for health.”

The Curatio platform uses AI and matchmaking to connect patients and their support systems to people going through the same or similar issues.

Through these groups and personalized support circles patients can discuss with their peers what is happening, getting valuable advice from people who really know what is going on.

As well, patients can use the tracking features to make their disease management easier and make their progress clearer to see while doctors can use the features to remind patients about medications and collect health data.

This new update to our health system will prove to help so many people better manage their health, which is an amazing thing.

Of course, this is not the only system changing how we manage our care and our medical community.

Connecting with other people who share your disease is incredibly important. The ability to share knowledge, tips and emotional support is vital when it comes to battling a medical condition. When you have a rare disease this tends to be much harder to do as the population is much more spread out.

Enter RareConnect. This new platform will prove to be a godsend for those wanting to touch base with other people who share their condition across the globe or other people who have similar problems (both medical and societal).

Safe and secure and moderated by people with full knowledge of the community RareConnect may stand as the only way some people are able to communicate with other people who share their condition. For those who have been suffering alone this is a game-changer.

Beating medical crises alone is near impossible and it’s good to see modern technology is finding ways to link people who need support and knowledge.

Then, of course, there is the very important but oft neglected area of mental health. This is a problem that will only grow as the population ages.

Because of stigma and costs related to treatment far too many people slip through the cracks, avoiding or being unable to access the treatment they need to continue functioning.

Is there a way to reduce costs and increase access while minimizing the stigma of going out to see a therapist?

This is one of the areas where AI can prove to be a game-changer.

AI or robot therapists may never fully overtake the mental health field but their growing presence in the field is changing how people access and even view the therapy market.

Look at X2 and its chatbot Tess. This new therapy innovation has already helped millions of users by guiding them towards the development of strategies and reducing their depression rates.

Another option is Woebot, an app that uses cognitive behavioral therapy to help people manage their mental health. Its studies have shown that patients engaging with the Woebot have lower rates of depression and anxiety.

Mental health and the costs related to it are issues we should not be putting on the backburner. At the same time, finding new ways to reach those in need of help is the best way to ensure more people are gaining access to the tools they need to continue living productive lives.

I think we all understand how important it is to have good health. We also understand the amazing ways technology is changing aspects of our lives.

Modern technology and innovation is revolutionizing our medical sphere and this is very exciting. Tomorrow’s world of medicine will look very different from yesterday’s—not just in the operating room but in every way we interact with the system.

It’s a good time to be alive.
