4 Steps Towards Achieving the SDGs

I hope by this point you understand the incredible importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and why we need to do what we can to ensure we meet the 2030 Agenda set out by United Nations.

Of course a very important follow-up question is what do we do now? The solutions are there but how do we take the right path to enact them and make a better world for future generations?

There are 4 steps to take or, to put it another way, 4 mindset changes we need to make.

The first change we need to make to achieve the SDGs is a societal makeover.  We need to change how we deal with the systems that improve our lives like education and healthcare in order to improve the lives of everyone on the planet.

Thanks to modern technology we have the ability to make real change. Artificial Intelligence (AI), for example, is radically improving the diagnosis process for numerous disease groups like childhood diseases, rare diseases and strokes.

A second change we need to make to achieve the SDGs is creating smart cities and farms, increasing access to transit, technology and its benefits, and changing our food system to one that is using AgriTech to reduce farming’s climate footprint. For AgriTech a big part of this is using digital data and smart farming to upgrade how agriculture practices are being used.

Cattle Care is a good example of what is being done with AI and AgriTech. The company uses the technology to upgrade the management of dairy farms and better check for abnormalities.

By working together to create smart cities and farms we will improve life for billions. Obviously this is worth doing.

A third change we need to achieve the SDGs is improving our energy sources. Here, too, AI plays an important role by giving providers and users new ways to manage the energy consumption.

Stem, for example, uses AI to help provide energy storage for solar power and Siemens has introduced Spectrum Power™ Active Network Management (ANM) to better control our energy usage and reduce C02 emissions.

If we want to keep our modern advantages like energy and power we need a greener version and it’s amazing to see that our options are increasing.

The fourth change we need to make is greater use of responsible consumption and production.

One important change we need to make is to reduce our dependence on damaging chemicals to produce our textiles and clothing.

Enter ATICELL, a company aiming to remake the textile industry by changing how we treat our clothes into an environmentally-friendly and sustainable method.

By opening up their technology upgrade to other companies ATICELL is opening up the potential to make our clothing industry more sustainable. This will also serve very well in our quest to reach SDG 12.4’s aim of environmentally sound management of chemicals.

This is a great first step and I hope more companies join ATICELL’s revolution.

True innovation is needed if we want to stave off a climate apocalypse yet still keep the amazing advantages we have in our modern era.

Not everyone has the technological knowledge and business savvy to create these innovations but we can be involved in the process by supporting them and helping them grow into the new drivers of the economy.

This is our call to arms. We can do amazing things when we put our minds to it and work together so let’s band together and walk united towards a better future for everyone.
